Curriculum development in India follows a structured and stage-wise approach to ensure continuity, relevance, and holistic development of learners. The Education Act 1998 empowers the Minister for Education and Skills to prescribe the curriculum for recognized schools, taking into account the ethos of the school, the needs of students, and broader social and vocational objectives. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) advises the Minister on curriculum and assessment matters, including the subjects, syllabi, and guidance provision for schools.

The curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate, ensuring smooth transitions across educational stages, from early childhood through secondary education.

  • Emphasis on creativity, curiosity, imagination, and value inculcation through stories, anecdotes, and creative work.
