The Art of Healthy and Productive Living is an interdisciplinary area of learning that integrates Health and Physical Education, Art Education, and Work Education. Its main objective is to:

  • Develop aesthetic sensibilities.
  • Promote skills for healthful living.
  • Foster love for labour, positive social attitudes, and moral values.
  • Enable children to be receptive to others’ ideas with humility and sincerity.

Primary Stage (Classes I–II)

Focus Areas:

  • Music and Art: Encourage subjective choices in music, drawing, painting, and clay modeling.
  • Physical Activities: Light exercises, group songs, dramatization, and dance.
  • Value Education: Storytelling and dramatization appropriate to the child’s maturity.
  • Observation and Habits: Encourage keen observation, accurate description, hygiene practices (cleaning teeth, dressing up).
  • Formal Behaviour: Teach proper sitting, standing, and formal speech.

Teaching Approach:

  • Activities must be integrated, linking physical, artistic, and moral development.
  • Use locally available resources and community involvement where possible.

Primary Stage (Classes III–V)

Focus Areas:

  • Physical Development: Improved muscular coordination and sensory discrimination through light exercise and drill integrated with music.
  • Health Education: Introduction to elementary concepts of health, strength, and beauty of the body.
  • Art and Creativity: Activities include drawing, painting, collage, clay modeling, printing, use of masks and puppets, folk dance, rangoli, alpana, etc.
  • Aesthetic Appreciation: Encourage appreciation of beauty in objects and music, fostering a sense of preference and taste.

Teaching Approach:

  • Teachers should be oriented to deliver integrated learning experiences.
  • Use of instructional materials (print, non-print, wall posters) to assist in teaching concepts of healthy and productive living.

Overall Goal:
To provide holistic development of children by integrating health, arts, and work education, enabling them to develop physical fitness, creativity, values, and social skills simultaneously.
