Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of a new international cricket stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on September 23, 2023. The stadium is being built at a cost of Rs. 450 crore and is expected to be completed by December 2025.
The stadium will be built on a 30-acre plot of land and will have a capacity of 30,000 spectators. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a floodlit cricket pitch, a world-class drainage system, and a modern press box.
In his speech at the foundation laying ceremony, PM Modi said that the stadium will be a boon for the people of Varanasi and the entire eastern Uttar Pradesh region. He said that the stadium will not only host international cricket matches, but will also be a venue for other sports and cultural events.
PM Modi also said that the stadium will create new employment opportunities for the youth of Varanasi. He urged the local people to support the construction of the stadium and to make it a success.
