On April 14, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, also known as the Prime Ministers’ Museum. Nestled on Teen Murti Marg in New Delhi, this museum stands as a tribute to every Indian Prime Minister since independence. Its location, adjacent to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML), carries historical significance, as it was once the residence of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Beyond static exhibits of mementos, the museum offers immersive experiences. Visitors can embark on a simulated helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view of India’s landmarks, or delve into an audio-visual tour featuring historic speeches delivered from the iconic Red Fort.
The choice of location for the museum is not merely coincidental. The estate’s rich history, having once housed Prime Minister Nehru, adds another layer to the narrative. Building I houses the Toshakhana Zone, showcasing valuable gifts presented to prominent figures like Nehru, Manmohan Singh, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Stepping into the Making of the Constitution chamber, visitors can witness the documents and discussions that shaped India’s foundational document. The India-China War Room transports them back in time with wartime photographs and documents, offering a glimpse into this significant chapter of Indian history.
Building II introduces visitors to the Prime Ministers of India through the Parichay chamber. Each Prime Minister is then presented in a dedicated zone, showcasing their biography, noteworthy speeches, and other relevant content.
The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya is more than just a museum; it’s a journey through India’s political landscape, celebrating the contributions of each leader who has shaped the nation’s destiny.
